Arkansas Nuclear One Units 1 & 2 are located in London, Arkansas approximately 6 miles west-northwest of Russellville, Arkansas. Unit 1 is a Babcock & Wilcox PWR and licensed to operate until May 20, 2034. Unit 2 is a Combustion Engineering PWR and licensed to operated until July 17, 2038. Both plants are operated by Entergy Nuclear South. Both plants are owned by Entergy Arkansas, Inc., which is a subsidiary of Entergy Corp.
The ISFSI at Arkansas Nuclear One began accepting SNF in 1996 pursuant to a general license. The ISFSI consists of two concrete storage pads located within the security perimeter for the plant. As of the end of 2011, there were between 1,560 and 1,624 SNF assemblies stored in 61 dry casks. One concrete pad holds 24 casks manufactured by BNFL Fuel Solutions (the VSC-24 canister type). The other concrete pad holds the remaining 37 casks (and those being used now) manufactured by Holtec (the Hi-Storm cask system and the MPC-24P and MPC-36P canister type). As of the end of 2010, there are 1,260 metric tons of SNF stored at Arkansas Nuclear One.
