Big Rock Point

Big Rock Point Nuclear Power Plant was located in Charlevoix, Michigan approximately 11 miles west of Petoskey, Michigan.  The General Electric BWR was operated by Consumers Energy Company until it was shutdown in August 1997.  Decommissioning activities continued since that time and were completed in August 2007.  In July 2006, Entergy Corporation bought the site for $30 million from Consumers Energy as part of its purchase of the Palisades Nuclear Plant.

All that remains at the site is a general license ISFSI, to which all SNF from Big Rock was transferred beginning in 2002 and completed by March 2003.  The ISFSI holds 441 SNF assemblies in 7 dry casks, as well as greater-than-class-c waste is another dry cask.  The casks are manufactured by BNFL Fuel Solutions — the W-150 canister type (each capable of holding 64 assemblies).  There is a total of 58 metric tons of SNF stored at the Big Rock Point ISFSI.
