Brunswick Units 1 and 2 is located in Southport, North Carolina approximately 40 miles south of Wilmington, North Carolina.  The General Electric BWRs are operated by Progress Energy.  Units 1 and 2 are owned by Progress Energy Carolinas (81.7%), a wholly owned subsidiary of Progress Energy, Inc, and by North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency (18.3%).  Unit 1 is licensed to operate until September 8, 2036.  Unit 2 is licensed to operate until December 27, 2034.  The ISFSI began accepting SNF from Unit 2 in 2007 and from Unit 1 in 2008.  As of the end of 2010, there was 3,450 metric tons of SNF in storage at the 3 nuclear power plant sites located in North Carolina — Brunswick, McGuire and Shearon Harris.
