Byron Units 1 and 2 are located in Byron, Illinois approximately 17 miles southwest of Rockford, Illinois.  The Westinghouse PWRs are operated by Exelon Generation Company, LLC.  Both units are wholly owned by Exelon Corp.  Unit 1 is licensed to operated until October 31, 2024.  Unit 2 is licensed to operated until November 6, 2026.  The ISFSI began accepting SNF from both units in 2011 under a general license.  As of the end of 2010, there was 8,440 metric tons of SNF in storage at the 7 nuclear power plant sites located in the State of Illinois — Braidwood, Byron, Clinton, Dresden, La Salle County, Quad Cities and Zion.
