Davis-Besse Unit 1 is located in Oak Harbor, Ohio approximately 21 miles east-southeast from Toledo, Ohio. The Babcock & Wilcox PWR is operated by First Energy Nuclear Operating Co. Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. owns 51.4% of the plant and Toledo Edison Co. owns 48.6% of the plant — both companies are wholly owned by First Energy Corp. The unit is licensed to operate until April 22, 2017.
The ISFSI at Davis-Besse began accepting SNF in 1995. As of the end of 2008, there were 72 assemblies stored in 3 dry casks. The casks were manufactured by Transnuclear — the NUHOMS cask system and the 24P canister type. As of the end of 2010, there was 1,070 metric tons of SNF stored at the 2 nuclear power reactor sites located in the State of Ohio — Davis-Besse and Perry.
