Duane Arnold Energy Center is located in Palo, Iowa approximately 8 miles northwest of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The General Electric BWR is operated by NextEra Energy Resources Duane Arnold, LLC. The plant is owned (70%) by NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, which a wholly owned subsidiary of NextEra Energy, Inc. In addition, the plant is owned by Central Iowa Power Cooperative (20%) and by Corn Belt Power Cooperative (10%). The plant is licensed to operate until February 21, 2034.
The ISFSI for Duane Arnold began accepting SNF in 2004 pursuant to a general license. As of the end of 2011, there were 732 SNF assemblies stored in 12 casks. The casks are manufactured by Transnuclear — the NUHOMS cask system and the 61BT canister type. As of the end of 2010, there was 420 metric tons of SNF in storage at Duane Arnold.
