Fermi Unit 2 is located in Newport, Michigan approximately 25 miles northeast of Toledo, Ohio. The General Electric BWR is operated by Detroit Edison Company and owned by DTE Energy Co. Unit 2 is licensed to operate until March 20, 2025. Unit 1 was a fast breeder reactor that was shutdown in November 1972, its fuel was shipped offsite in 1973, and the plant was initially decommissioned in December 1975 and will be fully decommissioning in 2025. Additional information regarding the decommissioning of Unit 1 can be found at the following NRC website: http://www.nrc.gov/info-finder/decommissioning/power-reactor/enrico-fermi-atomic-power-plant-unit-1.html. Fermi does not have an ISFSI; however, a general license ISFSI is currently being pursued and will be needed in 2012. The ISFSI will be located within the plant’s security perimeter, will include a support equipment storage building, will consist of a concrete storage pad 140 feet square, and will accommodate 64 Hi-Storm dry casks.
