James A. FitzPatrick is located in Scriba, New York approximately 6 miles northeast of Oswego, New York. The General Electric BWR is operated by Entergy Nuclear Northeast and owned by Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Entergy Corp. The unit is licensed to operate until October 17, 2034. Also located on the same site is Nine Mile Point Units 1 and 2.
The ISFSI for FitzPatrick began accepting SNF in 2002 pursuant to a general license. (The ISFSI for FitzPatrick does not accept SNF from Nine Mile Point Unit 1 or Unit 2.) As of the end of 2010, 1,020 assemblies were stored in 15 dry casks (the photo only shows 9). The casks are manufactured by Holtec — the Hi-Storm cask system and the MPC-68 canister type. As of the end of 2010, there was 3,450 metric tons of SNF stored at the four nuclear power plant sites located in the State of New York — FitzPatrick, Ginna, Indian Point and Nine Mile Point.
