La Crosse

La Crosse is located in Genoa, Wisconsin.  It appears in the bottom-center of the photo in front of the Genoa #3 coal plant.  The Allis Chambers BWR is owned and was operated by Dairyland Power Cooperative.  The plant was shutdown in April 1987.  Since that time, decommissioning and dismantling activities have been ongoing, and they are expected to be completed by 2026.

An ISFSI is located on the south end of the site and has space for 5 casks.  The above photo is taken facing south, and the ISFSI is located at the top of the photo between two closed coal ash ponds and 900 feet from the public boat landing.  Movement of the 333 SNF assemblies, representing 38 metric tons of uranium, from the spent fuel pool to the ISFSI was scheduled to begin in October 2011 but now is anticipated to occur in early 2012.  The casks (already placed on the concrete pad as shown in the photos) are manufactured by NAC International – the MPC cask system.
