Nine Mile Point Units 1 and 2 are located in Scriba, New York approximately 6 miles northeast of Oswego, New York. The General Electric BWRs are operated by Constellation Energy Nuclear Group, LLC, which also owns 50.01% of Unit 1 and 41.01% of Unit 2. Constellation Energy Nuclear Group, LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Constellation Energy Group. Electricite de France owns the remaining 49.99% of Unit 1 and 40.99% of Unit 2. Long Island Power Authority owns the remaining 18% of Unit 2. Unit 1 is licensed to operate until August 22, 2029. Unit 2 is licensed to operate until October 31, 2046. Also located on the same 900 acre site is the FitzPatrick nuclear power plant (seen in the upper left of the photo).
Nine Mile Point currently does not have an ISFSI; however, Constellation Energy is pursuing a general license ISFSI. It is anticipated that Unit 1 will begin transferring SNF to the ISFSI in August 2012, and Unit 2 sometime in 2014. (There is an ISFSI at the FitzPatrick nuclear power plant but it will not be used to store SNF from Nine Mile Point Unit 1 or Unit 2.) The ISFSI will be located within the security perimeter for the Nine Mile plant. As of the end of 2010, there were 3,450 metric tons of SNF stored at the 4 nuclear power plant sites located in the State of New York — FitzPatrick, Ginna, Indian Point and Nine Mile Point.
