Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station is located in Forked River, New Jersey approximately 9 miles south of Toms River, New Jersey. The General Electric BWR is operated by Exelon Generation Co., LLC and owned by Exelon Corp. The plant is licensed to operate until April 9, 2029.
The ISFSI for Oyster Creek began accepting SNF in 2002 pursuant to a general license. The ISFSI consists of a single concrete storage pad capable of holding 20 casks in a 2 x 10 array. As of November 2010, there were 1,159 SNF assemblies stored in 19 dry casks (the photo only shows 9 storage modules). Additional cask storage modules are being constructed for use in 2012. The casks are manufactured by Transnuclear — the NUHOMS cask system and the 61BT canister type. As of the end of 2010, there was 2,480 metric tons of SNF stored at the 3 nuclear power plant sites located in the State of New Jersey — Hope Creek, Oyster Creek and Salem.
