Robinson

H.B. Robinson Steam Electric Plant Unit 2 is located in Hartsville, South Carolina approximately 26 miles northwest of Florence, South Carolina.  The Westinghouse PWR is operated by Progress Energy and owned by Progress Energy Carolinas, a wholly owned subsidiary of Progress Energy, Inc.  The plant is licensed to operated until July 31, 2030.  Also located at the same site is Unit 1, a coal-fired plant, and a small combustion turbine.

The ISFSI for Robinson began receiving SNF in 1987 pursuant to a site specific license, and then in 2005 pursuant to a general license.  The ISFSI is located adjacent to the plant although within its own security perimeter.  As of the end of August 2011, there were 392 SNF assemblies in 22 casks (the photo only shows 20 cask modules).  All casks are manufactured by Transnuclear – the NUHOMS cask system.  The first eight casks containing 56 SNF assemblies, which were loaded under the site-specific license, used the 7P canister type.  The other 14 casks containing 336 SNF assemblies, which were loaded under the general license, used the 24PTH canister type.  As of the end of 2010, there was 3,900 metric tons of SNF stored at the four nuclear power plant sites located in South Carolina — Catawba, Oconee, Robinson and Summer.
