Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station is located in Vernon, Vermont approximately 5 miles south of Brattleboro, Vermont. The General Electric BWR is operated by Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee, LLC. The plant is owned by Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Entergy Corp. The plant is licensed to operate until March 21, 2032.
The ISFSI for Vermont Yankee began accepting SNF for storage in June 2008 pursuant to a general license. The ISFSI consists of a single concrete pad approximately 140 feet long by 70 feet wide. The ISFSI is located inside the plant’s security perimeter just north of the reactor building (top center in the photo). As of the end of August 2012, there were 612 SNF assemblies stored in 9 dry casks. The casks are manufactured by Holtec — the Hi-Storm cask system and the MPC-68 canister type. As of the end of 2010, there were 610 metric tons of SNF stored at Vermont Yankee.
