Watts Bar Nuclear Plant Unit 1 is located in Spring City, Tennessee approximately 60 miles southeast of Knoxville, Tennessee. The Westinghouse PWR is operated and owned by Tennessee Valley Authority. The plant is licensed to operate until November 9, 2035. (Construction of the second unit at Watts Bar was suspended in late 1985, but resumed in August 2007 and is expected to receive its operating license in late 2012 or early 2013.) TVA has not yet made a decision regarding an ISFSI for Watts Bar since dry cask storage will not be needed until 2018. As of the end of 2010, there were 1,500 metric tons of SNF stored at the two nuclear power plant sites located in the State of Tennessee — Sequoyah and Watts Bar.
