Wolf Creek Generating Station Unit 1 is located in Burlington, Kansas approximately 55 miles south of Topeka. The Westinghouse PWR is operated by Wolf Creek Nuclear Operations Corp. The plant is owned (47%) by Kansas City Power & Light a wholly owned subsidiary of Great Plains Energy, Inc., and owned (47%) by Kansas Gas & Electric Co. a wholly owned subsidiary of Westar Energy, Inc., and also owned (6%) by Kansas Electric Power Coop., Inc. The plant is licensed to operate until March 11, 2045. Wolf Creek Nuclear Operations Corp. has not yet made a decision regarding an ISFSI since it is anticipated that dry cask storage will not be needed until 2025. As of the end of 2010, there were 610 metric tons of SNF stored at Wolf Creek.
