Transnuclear

Transnuclear is a wholly-owned subsidiary of AREVA North America that provides two types of dry cask storage options for spent nuclear fuel (SNF) in the U.S.

The NUHOMS cask system provides horizontally-oriented storage capability for SNF from both pressurized water reactors (PWRs) and boiling water reactors (BWRs).  The design consists of a concrete horizontal storage module into which a steel canister is placed containing the SNF.  The canister types for PWRs are capable of holding either 24 or 32 SNF assemblies (initial design only allowed for storage of 7 SNF assemblies from PWRs).  The canister types of BWRs are capable of holding either 52 or 61 SNF assemblies (the initial design only allowed for storage of 18 SNF assemblies from BWRs).  In addition, specialized designs are available to accommodate particular storage scenarios

Transnuclear also offers a vertically-oriented metal container for storage of SNF.  For PWRs, the TN metal container is capable of storing either 32 of 40 SNF assemblies from PWRs, or 68 SNF assemblies from PWRs.  Other specialized metal storage canisters are available as well.
